Al Jazeera Satellite Channel started following the closure of the BBC's Arabic language TV station.
Potential Bias: As it is partly funded by the Qatari government, news stories could possibly favour Qatar and its interests. For example, the football (soccer) World Cup was held in Qatar in 2022. While some media outlets released mostly negative new stories about the World Cup (e.g. corruption in FIFA to secure the World Cup in Qatar and human rights violations resulting in thousands of deaths preparing for the world cup), Al Jazeera released positive news stories and used the platform to promote the country. Many videos and articles resembled tourism advertisements.
