Start by changing one thing at a time. It’s a lot less overwhelming making small changes.
Washcloths
Use bio-degradable natural-fibre washcloths and natural loofahs instead of plastic or nylon sponges. That way you can throw them on your compost when they get old. Some natural fibres to look for include:
organic bamboo
coconut fibres
agave
Makeup Wipes
Reusable makeup wipes can be used for cleansing, toning and removing makeup. They usually come with a bag to put in the washing machine. They come in packs of 10 or more.
Clothes Pegs
Stainless steel pegs can be used instead of plastic ones. Marine grade pegs can be bought if you live near the ocean. Although they are more expensive, they won't rust.
Bamboo Products
Bamboo is used to make a wide variety of products; from toothbrushes to cleaning products. Bamboo is a sustainable and natural material as it usually requires no chemicals, no pesticides, and little water.
Beeswax Food Wrap
Beeswax wraps are a reusable, washable and sustainable alternative to cling wrap.
Microbeads
Microbeads are tiny bits of plastic that are added to a whole range of products and have been banned in several countries. Because microbeads are so small, they end up in our sewer system before making their way into the ocean and have been found in many food items. Check the labels on your products (e.g. toothpaste, body wash, cleansers) to make sure they don't contain microbeads.
